We are pleased to announce that on the occasion of Romania's National Day, the President of the Romanian Cultural Institute, Professor Andrei Marga, will attend a series of celebrations in London and Cardiff from 30 November to 4 December.
Professor Marga is HE Dr Ion Jinga's guest at the National Day of Romania reception offered by the Embassy of Romania on 30 November.
On 1 December, Professor Marga together with the Ambassador of Romania and Councillor Julia Magill will launch the Romanian Collection at the Cardiff Central Library, a set of 300 books donated by the Romanian Cultural Institute at the initiative of the Romanian Association of Wales. The launching will be accompanied by the opening of the photographic exhibition "Romania: The Shapes of Light", a captivating journey across some of the most beautiful Romanian landscapes. On 3 December, Professor Marga will offer a lecture on „Democracy as a Form of Life" at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, a partnership event with the Cantemir Institute at the University of Oxford. This is the first public talk presented by Professor Marga in the UK in his capacity as President of the Romanian Cultural Institute. The President of the Romanian Cultural Institute will touch upon, inter alia, topics he has been constantly visiting as scholar and public leader in the past years. Professor Marga will make the argument, also developed in his thoroughly examination of the Destiny of Europe, that today democratic transformation is essential and profound: "My thesis is that the change involves liberal democracy itself... and it implies a transition from democracy understood as a technique of periodical choice of leaders to democracy as a form of life."

President of the Romanian Cultural Institute since September 2012, Andrei Marga is a philosopher, political scientist, and academic. He has authored a large number of volumes on political science and theory, political philosophy, and the philosophy of history. His topics include philosophical theories of Herbert Marcuse and Jürgen Habermas, the nature of positivism, the philosophic foundations of transition from communism to a market economy, and the evolution of principles guiding European integration. He was Minister of Education (1997 -2001), Minister of Foreign Affairs (2012), and Rector of the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj for fifteen years between 1993-2004 and 2008-2012. In 2005, Andrei Marga received the prestigious Herder Prize in recognition of his scientific contributions.
