Fluid world of words - minority languages in globalized literature | European Literature Nights Seminar at the Gothenburg Book Fair

The Fluid world of words – minority languages in globalized literature seminar will take place on Thursday, 26 September 2013, between 14:00 and 14:45, at the Bok & Bibliotek book fair of Gotherburg. The event gathers writers and translators from the Czech Republic, Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Romania.
Translation and translators have a key role to play in safeguarding and promoting linguistic and cultural diversity especially in minority languages. Writers and translators from Czech Republic, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Romania will discuss the role of minority languages in the concept of cultural identity and the effects of globalization on translations. The writers will share their unique experience of writing in minority languages and will debate the importance of translations into other languages.

The event is organised by the International Cultural Programme Centre in Lithuania, Romanian Cultural Institute, Czech Centres, Dublin Unesco City of Literature, British Council in Portugal, Wrocław-European Capital of Culture 2016/ European Literature Nights project 2012-2014.

European Literature Nights is a cultural project developed with the support of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC). The events of 2013 are supported by the European Commission through Culture 2007-2013 programme. The project is organised by a consortium including British Council Portugal, Center for International Cultural Programmes Lithuania, Dublin UNESCO City of Literature, Wrocław-European Cultural Capital 2016 Association / Impart 2016 Festival Office, Větrné mlýny / Wind Mills Association of Brno and Czech Centres (coordinator).
