Between 7 and 10 December, 2009, Norman Manea takes part in the second Kisufim - Jerusalem Conference of Jewish Writers. The conference's theme is Exile and Language. Approximately 45 writers from about 15 countries will participate in the debates, workshops, round tables and lectures in the conference, whose working languages are: English, Hebrew, French, German, Italian, Spaniah, Russian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Yiddish and Romanian.

On December 15, starting 18:00 hours, a literary cafe will take place at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv. Norman Manea will present his latest book, Vizuina (published in Romania in October). In Romanian language. Free entrance. Limited seats.

"Norman Manea is the most translated Romanian contemporary writer. His work has appeared in 20 languages and more than sixty volumes. He has been awarded some major international prizes, among them the 1992 Guggenheim Grant and the 1992 MacArthur Prize (called the "American Nobel"), the 1993 Literary Lion Medal by the New York National Library, the 2002 Nonino International Literary Prize for Opera Omnia, the 2006 Prix Médicis étranger, and is considered one of the most important contemporary writers.
In the extreme situations of his fiction and essays – the Holocaust, daily life in a totalitarian communist state and exile – the author focuses on the inner life of the individual, solitude and problematic solidarity with others, the doubts, hopes and integrity in the struggle not only with outside circumstances but also with oneself, the intense and lucid commitment to life and to questioning its meaning. Truth, beauty, and the moral good form a natural and profound alliance in his writing.
Norman Manea's work has been placed in the literary family of such writers as Bruno Schulz and Musil, and he has often been mentioned as a literary descendant of Kafka."

למכון הרומני לתרבות בתל אביב יש את הכבוד הגדול לארח את הסופר הרומני נורמן מנאה בערב ספרותי המוקדש להצגת הרומן החדש שלו (הוצאה לאור פולירום, אוקטובר 2009). המפגש יתקיים ביום שלישי בתאריך 15 לדצמבר, 2009, בשעה 18:00, במכון הרומני לתרבות בתל אביב (שד' שאול המלך מס' 8, בית אמות משפט, קומה 6). הדיונים ייערכו ברומנית. הכניסה ללא תשלום, על בסיס מקום פנוי.
נורמן מנאה הוא מחבר רומני עכשווי שספריו הם המתורגמים ביותר מהשפה הרומנית. הוא זכה במספר פרסים בינלאומיים: "מקארתור" - "האציל האמריקאי", הפרס הבינלאומי לספרות "נונינו", הפרס "מדיצ'ס אטרנג'ר". הסופר, ניצול שואה, עזב את רומניה בשנת 1986. מאז 1988 מתגורר בארה"ב והוא פרופסור לספרות האירופאית ו-"writer in residence" של בארד קולג', ניו יורק.
מכתביו של נורמן מנאה עוסקים ודנים באופן מאוד נוקב בנושאים אקטואליים ומרתקים: טראומת השואה, חיי היום יום במדינה טוטליטרית והגלות. נורמן מנאה הוא סופר שכלתני, אך מצליח למשוך את הקוראים דרך השפה והרישומים הליריים בהם הוא משתמש. מר מנאה הוא סופר מצוין, שעזב לפני יותר מ-20 שנים את רומניה אבל ממשיך לכתוב עליה בשפה רומנית חיה ורלוונטית.
