We are happy to kick off our 2025 programme with a special event that revisits the history and charm of Romania’s capital city, Bucharest, with a strong accent on its golden age: the interwar period. Organised in partnership with the Museum of Bucharest and supported by the Romanian Embassy and the General Consulate of Romania in London, the celebration comprises the Private View of the "Bucharest: Moving Maps" exhibition and a concert of Romanian interwar music featuring the iconic melodies of Jean Moscopol, Sergiu Malagamba, Ionel Fernic, and other musical legends of the time.
The event is dedicated to Romania's National Culture Day, celebrated every year on 15 January.
Special guests: Adrian Majuru, Director of the Museum of Bucharest, baritoneCozmin Sime, guitarist and composerHeiko Pape and pianistGiulia Glennon.
Join us for a journey back in time, where elegance and enchantment come alive!
About the "Bucharest: Moving Maps" exhibition:
History is like a map of ever-changing geographies. And the Street is the continent that has continuously modified according to our daily preoccupations but, most of all, according to our life projections. Over the last two hundred years, Bucharest has been a true arena of friendly confrontations between the “new” and the “old”, between the oriental city that stubbornly persisted and the modern city that struggled for a long time to take shape. We invite you to discover Bucharest through a selection of images that were carefully selected by our partners at the Museum of Bucharest and to hear the exhibition curator, Dr. Adrian Majuru, speak about the history of our capital and the people who helped shape its future.
About the concert:
Created especially for this occasion, the concert presents musical gems from past decades. The much-loved songs give life to a well-crafted story about the life and loves of a fictional character of the interwar period. The concept of the recital is created by baritone Cozmin Sime and the musical arrangements are made by guitarist and composer Heiko Pape. Piano accompaniment by Giulia Glennon.
When: 15 Jan 2025, 19:00 – 21:30
