Romanian Taraf de Haïdouks was invited to perform two concerts in Israel in Haifa on the 2nd of June, and in Jerusalem, on June the 3rd, within the 2008 Israel Festival.
The group of twelve Gypsy "lăutari" (traditional musicians), originating from the Romanian village Clejani, introduces listeners to a musical world which includes medieval ballads, Turkish-flavoured dance tunes from the Balkans, and characteristic vocal inflections. The Taraf de Haïdouks - the name literally translates as "band of honourable brigands" - is animated by extraordinary and colorful characters, who have managed to convince the audiences of the biggest World Music festivals. Since the release of their first album in 1991, they have won wide audiences all over the world through their famous interpretative skills and cheering vitality, whether they interpret traditional Romanian pieces, gypsy folk music or stage innovative performance of classical arrangements, as in their latest 2007 album, Maškaradǎ.
The Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv was delighted to invite you to this exceptional event, made possible with the assistance of the Israel Festival, Auditorium Haifa (ETHOS – The Haifa Art, Culture and Sport Company) and H.O.R. Haifa.
