The Romanian Cultural Institute presents Bound to Art - an exhibition showcasing the very best in Romanian graphic illustration and artist's books, including representatives of the most vibrant and diverse art book production. From the 1960s' generation of Geta Bratescu and Stefan Caltia to contemporary artists Dan Perjovschi, Daniel Knorr and many others, the works reveal how the genius of the writer and illustrator partnership enriches the story of the book.
We are surrounded by books all the time, at home, in libraries, bookshops and museums; however, the most beautiful ones are often exhibited only in cases, boxes or frames one page at a time. Visitors of Bound to Art exhibition will have the chance to leaf through fairy tales, fantasy fiction fanzines and comics books, or to handle exquisite leather and textile covers. This enacts the viewing of a book as a shared and performative activity, restoring at the same time the loss of human contact with these valued objects.
The exhibition features works by: Geta Bratescu, Stefan Caltia, Dan Perjovschi, Daniel Knorr, Ilinca Cantacuzino, Stefan Constantinescu, Ciprian Muresan, Anca Benera, Gili Mocanu, Vlad Nanca, Dinu Bodiciu, Hardcomics, Jumatatea Plina, IDEA and Clubul Ilustratorilor.
