Theatre is a fine barometer, one of the most active and powerful components of the introspection process that a society can afford and is available. This is why the way in which human society is organized will have an overwhelming influence on Theater too. After World War II, the model that captivated the attention of all thinkers (politicians, economicians, cultural) was the open society.
"Open society is a form of organization that can be simplistically described as democracy. (...) But it doesn’t mean only a democratically elected government, but it also relies on the existence of a society that is not dominated by state, that demands the existence of a strong civil society in a climate of law supremacy", wrote in a 1995 article Mr. George Soros.
"Open Society Theater" is a presentation that aims to debate the valences and functions of Theater in a geo-political and economic climate, particularly marked by multiple changes, economic and political crises, wars, technological development and globalization.

Ioana Moldovan has been a member of the Romanian Section of the International Association of Theater Critics since March 2007. She started to publish theatre reviews in 2007 and is now a regular theatre critic for Revista 22, a political weekly magazine. She is also a 2010-2011 Fulbright Junior Grantee with the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, with the research topic of “Open Society Theater”.
