"The practice of dyeing natural yarns with tentorial plants originates in the eternal dialogue between the Romanian countryman, with his love for harmony and balance, and nature. It is about that "savoir-faire" that, not long ago, we used to meet at every turn in Romanian villages' home industry.

The road taken since the gathering of plants until their transformation into textile dye substance unfolded following a well-known ritual that was orally transmitted from one generation to another, as part of the calendar of annual traditional holy days specific to the Romanian village. Inside the household, but also outside of it, there was an almost mathematical cycle in the succession of the activities dictated by the succession of seasons, traditions and customs.

The season, the climatic conditions, the harvest hour, the quality of soil, the collecting of a certain segment of the plant, the use of a certain binder on the natural yarns, together with other parameters, are part of key to the success of traditional dyeing "with weeds" in our country.

Linen yarns are at the top of preference when it comes to dyeing natural textile yarns' with plants in Romanian households. The chromatic palette resulted this way bore the imprint of refinement and uniqueness, having as a foundation the existence of a rich terminology of colours, which varied from one ethnographic zone to another. The colours' (nuances') reproducibility could not be ensured, as it was conditioned by the quantity and quality of the plants used, by the harvest hour, the quality and quantity of textile yarns and many other factors, mentioned above.

By following the natural dyeing recipes of the textile yarn, the weaving techniques, the science of realizing decorative shapes and decorative composition, the Romanian countrywoman has created, throughout the centuries, clothing pieces that are unique in their beauty, but also textile objects that composed the decorative ensemble of the traditional household.

The need for beauty is, nowadays, coupled with the necessity of living in a healthy environment, and thus the ecologic textile product becomes a must." (Daniela Frumușeanu)
