The Romanian Cultural Institute in Tokyo and the Romanian Embassy in Japan are pleased to announce the Romanian community’s participation in one of the most spectacular events in the “Land of the Rising Sun”: the Yokohama International Folk Costume Parade.
Scheduled for May 3, 2026, the parade is the highlight of the Yokohama Port Festival and a major event during the “Golden Week” holiday period. The Șezătoare JaponIA group, alongside numerous members of the Romanian community, will showcase the richness and authenticity of traditional Romanian folk costumes to the Japanese public.
As every year, the event will bring together over 3,000 participants, marching bands, and floats along a 3.4-kilometer route. The parade will start from the famous Yamashita Park, pass by historical landmarks such as the Customs House and the Red Brick Warehouse, and conclude in the Isezaki-cho district.
Romania’s participation in this major event in the Kanagawa region offers an unprecedented opportunity for visibility. Given that the parade attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators on-site and millions of television viewers annually, Romania’s presence underscores the dynamism of cultural diplomacy and the close ties between the Romanian community and the Japanese public sphere.
