ICR Tokyo supports the participation of Romanian designers in the exhibition “Design Beyond Things. The Object as an Agent of Transformation” at Expo Osaka

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Tokyo supports the participation of Romanian designers George Marinescu and Daria Oancea in the design exhibition “Design Beyond Things. The Object as an Agent of Transformation”, which will take place from August 29 to September 13, 2025. The project is organized by the European Union for the European Pavilion at the Osaka 2025 International Expo, in partnership with Laboh and the cultural centers and institutes of the EU member states.

Curators Miriam Giordano and Patrizia Catalano have selected several designers from EU member states to exhibit at the international design exhibition. Romania is represented by two young interdisciplinary architects and designers, George Marinescu and Daria Oancea, co-founders of the Ad-Hoc architecture studio. The two Romanian designers will exhibit an iteration of the project entitled Co-LIZA, creating a new prototype especially for the exhibition. Romanian designers will hold public communications (conferences and round tables) both at the inauguration and during the exhibition, together with other designers and architects.

The exhibition project offers the Japanese and international public the opportunity to come into contact with European design artists, including Romanian designers. The project contributes to the promotion of Romanian creativity in Japan, to the identification and consolidation of existing relationships with Japanese cultural entities, but also to the establishment of new relationships and intercultural dialogue between two cultural spaces united by the interest and passion for design.
