International exhibition "Tea Time around the World" in Tokyo

ICR Tokyo supports the Tea Time Around the World – International Cultural Exhibition project, which will take place from September 1 to 15, 2025. The international photography exhibition is organized by Minato Ward City Hall – Planning, Global Community, Art and Culture Department.

The exhibition takes place in the prestigious Midtown Minato-ku, Akasaka (9-7-1), an important center of art and culture, home to museums such as the Suntory Museum of Art, the Fujifilm Photo History Museum, exhibition spaces, design hubs, as well as recreational and business areas.

The project proposes a visual exploration of how people from different corners of the world spend their time dedicated to tea and coffee – whether it is preparation and tasting rituals, moments of personal reflection or socializing opportunities. “Tea time” is thus presented as a universal concept, culturally adapted and transformed into a true social, artistic and even spiritual ritual.

The exhibition selection was made following a public call for photographs addressed to countries that have embassies or cultural centers in the Minato sector. From the numerous proposals, only a few participating countries were chosen, including Romania.

Our country is represented by the works of Larisa Popescu, a Romanian citizen temporarily settled in Japan, who exhibits color photographs dedicated to the way Romanians perceive and experience “tea time”.

By participating in this exhibition, Romania contributes to the intercultural dialogue about the importance of tea and coffee as symbols of community, socialization and personal reflection, strengthening its cultural presence in Japan.
