World Premiere Event in Japan: “Rendez-vous aux Jardins” in Tokyo

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Tokyo and the Romanian Embassy in Japan are organizing, from June 6–8, 2025, a special edition of the “Rendez-vous aux Jardins” event—the first to take place outside the usual Francophone context and the only one held in Asia.

The event takes place at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tokyo (3 Chome-16-19 Nishiazabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo 106-0031) and highlights the art of gardens as a meeting place between cultures, through a diverse program of workshops, demonstrations, and exhibitions.

June 6 – 6:00 PM

Live ikebana performance – Nicoleta Oprisan, artist, designer, perfumer, and ikebana teacher, CEO of 5 Senses

Opening of the video-photography exhibition – Corneliu Brad, Romanian photographer


June 7 – 11:00 AM–1:00 PM and 2:00 PM–4:00 PM

Origami exhibition and demonstrations – Alexandra Baranyi, professor of Japanese language and culture, specializing in artistic objects made from washi paper

Ikebana exhibition and demonstrations – Andreea Georgescu, architect and ikebana teacher

Ikebana exhibition and demonstrations – Rumiko Matsumura, ikebana artist, together with her students


June 8

11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – Workshop and demonstrations of Japanese calligraphy, led by Ouka Magari (calligraphy artist), with the support of Mai Chonan and Yuika Chonan

2:00–4:00 p.m. – Workshop and demonstrations of traditional Romanian and Japanese textile arts (embroidery, sewing, yuzen technique), led by Cornelia Sekiguchi, Cornelia Kasahara, Elena Teodora (Irina) Ștefan, Alexandra Crasovschi, and Itsuko Kasahara
