The "Radu Stanca" National Theatre from Sibiu (TNRS) in South Korea and China

The "Radu Stanca" National Theatre from Sibiu (TNRS) is participating in the Seoul Performing Arts Market from October 4-12, and in the China Shanghai International Arts Festival from October 11-18, with the play "Romeo and Juliet", a modern adaptation of W. Shakespeare's work, directed by Andriy Zholdak. The tour is supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Romanian Ministry of Culture.

Andriy Zholdak, the creator of the show, took a "classic" and remixed it. The well-known Ukrainian director (re)imagines the story of the two lovers in a non-linear, cinematic montage style, applying a surrealist filter while highlighting the poetic language of W. Shakespeare. According to critics, "Romeo and Juliet" is a "meteor shower, embodied by the young team of theater actors and drama students, a reference to a way of being: young, beautiful, and alive."

"Romeo and Juliet" is a production created as part of the European "LIBERTY" project, funded by the Creative Europe Program. TNRS is a "LIBERTY" partner alongside ArtReach, altonale GmbH, Explora - Il Museo dei Bambini di Roma, CESIE, Aalborg Karneval, Center E8, CNC DANSE - Nathalie Cornille, Pionirski dom - Center for Youth Culture, Den Selvejende Institution Swinging Europe, TRAFO Contemporary Art House, and European Educational Exchanges – Youth for Understanding.

The "Romeo and Juliet" performances will take place on October 15 and 16 at 7:30 PM, at the Shanghai Theatre Academy STA Experimental Theatre.

The TNRS show is a journey into the borderless space of love: without logic or morality, without sorrow or contempt, without boredom or commentary. Here, attraction is the first physical law. The force with which young people accelerate toward each other feels like their fall into the abyss. Where desire emerges, envy follows; where light falls, shadows threaten around it. A black wing, a cry, in the middle of a dance floor.
