Romanian-born singing sensation Sanda Weigl blends gypsy music, cabaret, klezmer and jazz, reflecting her own life story in every moment of her performance. Accompanied by her new band, Sanda takes the Romanian songs she grew up hearing on the streets of Bucharest to a truly revolutionary level. Her Israel tour, with concerts in Karmiel, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv.
New album "Gypsy in a Tree" finds Sanda Weigl reinventing the music of her Romanian roots with a brilliant cast of New York-based Japanese musicians, the brothers Stomu and Satoshi Takeishi, on electric bass and percution, and Shoko Nagai on accordion and piano. The album, as well as the previous "Gypsy Killer", which will also be presented in the Israel concerts, have enjoyed much success beginning with their release. "This music is like nothing else", notes C. Michael Bailey on the All about Jazz website - "it is full of life, love, lust, family – all those things that are good". Concerts schedule:
