Romanian films presented at The 25th Jerusalem International Film Festival

The new wave in Romanian Cinema was presented at the 25th Jerusalem International Film Festival. BOOGIE, directed by Radu Muntean (presented this year at Cannes in the selection Quinzaine des Réalisateurs and also in the selection for Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, within the competition East of the West) was presented in the screenings selection. On the 15th of July, the Festival did present a series of short films by young Romanian film directors and the workshop The New Wave in Romanian Cinema – Directions and Perspectives, conducted by Dan Făinaru, film critic. The short films, awarded in national and international competitions were: Megatron, directed by Marian Crişan (Palme D'Or Cannes 2008); The tube with a Hat, directed by Radu Jude (Best short Sundance 2007, Grand Prix Bilbao 2006, Golden Moan Valencia, Best short Cracow, Hamburg etc.); A Good Day for a Swim, directed by Bogdan Mustaţă (Golden Bear, Berlinale 2008); The Boxing Lesson, directed by Alexandru Mavrodineanu; Life's Hard, directed by Gabriel Sîrbu; Waves, directed by Adrian Sitaru.
At the same time, two round tables debating Romanian Cinematography took place on the 11th of July 11.00 hrs, at the Romanian Cultural Circle from Jerusalem and, on the 16th of July 17.00 hrs, at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv. The public has met: Cristina Corciovescu, president of the Romanian Film Critics Association; Alex Leo Şerban, film critic; Gabriel Sîrbu, young film director, the author of the short film "Life's Hard"; Alexandru Mavrodineanu, director of the film "The Boxing Lesson"; Erwin Simsensohn, young actor playing in the short film "Megatron", Palme D'Or awarded at Cannes Film Festival.
