The 21st International Cartoon Exhibition – Haifa 2015 will be presenting cartoons from all over the world, under the categories “Freedom of Speech” and “Life in Multicultural Cities”. The cartoons have been selected after a contest, organized in the summer of 2015.From Romania, at this edition, Constantin Ciosu is the recipient of the Honorable Mention awarded by the Comission for UNESCO in Israel and Nicolae Ioniță will receive the Honorable Mention awarded by the Journalists’ Association in Haifa and the North. The Award Ceremony will take place on September 24th, 2015, at 18:00, at Haifa Auditorium, in the presence of Haifa Mayor, Yona Yahav.
Constantin Ciosu graduated from the Fine Arts Institute “Ion Andreescu” in Cluj, in 1964. Since 1961, his drawings and cartoons have been published by international magazines such as Punch (UK), Pardon (Germany), Palante (Cuba), Jez (Yugoslavia), Cartoon&Caricature (Iran), Euro Jeux & GAG (France) and many others. He made his debut in the International Cartoon Salons in 1973 at Gabrovo, Bulgaria, where he received the third prize. Since then, he received over 100 international awards, such as Skopje (Macedonia), Berningan and Knokke-Heist (Belgium), Taipei and Hanjing (China), Presov (Slovakia) and many others. Some of his works are part of the collection of Cartoon Museum in Basel and of private collections from Switzerland and Belgium. He lives and works in Bacău (Romania).Nicolae Ioniță was born in Romania, in 1951. He made his debut in 1969 in the “Urzica” magazine. He participated in over 150 national and international cartoon exhibitions. He published over 10.000 caricatures and illustrations in Romania and abroad and he received 24 national and 27 international awards.The Festival is ogranized by Haifa Municipality with the support of the Comission for UNESCO in Israel, Haifa Foundation, Israel Ministry of Education, Israel Painters and Sculptors Association, Journalists’ Association in Haifa and the North and Cartunion International Cartoonists’ Club.
The exhibition is open to the public daily between the 24th of September and the 5th of October 2015 at the Haifa Auditorium (138 Hanassi Blvd.), between 10.00 – 22.00 hrs.
