The photography exhibition Jewish witness to a Romanian century, January 22 - February 28, 2018, RCI Tel Aviv gallery

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv, in collaboration with Centropa, is hosting between January 22 – February 28, 2018, a selection of 15 works from the documentary photography exhibition “Jewish witness to a Romanian century – Images and Stories from the Centropa Interviews ”, dedicated to marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Opening of the exhibition: 15.02.2018, at 17:00.

The exhibition is based on research started in Romania in 1999 by photographer, writer and film producer Edward Serotta, director of Centropa (The Central Europe Center for Research and Documentation). In a time frame of 11 years, around 1,500 Jews were interviewed and their personal testimonies speak about the culture and traditions of this community seen through their own memories and life experience.

The works of the exhibition comprise family photographs of old Jews in Romania and aim to reconstruct the life of the Jewish community around the period of the Second World War, each picture being accompanied by a short story told by the surviving members of the family or by the protagonists of the pictures themselves.

The exhibition is open to the public Monday - Thursday 10:00 - 16:00 hrs at Romanian Cultural Institute, Tel Aviv, 8 Shaul Hamelech blvd., 6th floor, as well as during the events organized at the RCI Tel Aviv gallery during this period.

The project is organized in collaboration with: Centropa, “Goldstein Goren” Center for Hebrew Studies at the Bucharest University, IDEE Association, Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania and the Austrian Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs.
