Publishing event in Israel: The Book of Whispers in Hebrew

The important Israeli publishing group, Hakibutz Hameuchad - Sifriat Poalim Publishing Group, has recently published The Book of Whispers, characterized imposingly by the author as being “the book of those who have suffered history instead of living it”.

The realistic theme that represents the basis of this book is as straighforward and clear-cut as possible. The book is an arresting document both about the Armenian genocide in 1915 and also about the diseases that affected mankind in the past century: world wars and totalitarianism.

The indifference with which world nations had treated the Armenian genocide would soon find itself once again, two decades later, in the tragedy of the Holocaust and, more recently, in the various genocidal actions taking place in Asia and Africa. The Book of Whispers, one of the most successful and awarded books in Romanian present literature, shapes itself into a testimony and an urge towards the acceptance of human dignity.

The publication of this book in Israel was made possible through the Romanian Cultural Institute’s program “Publishing Romania”.

Translated by Any Shilon and edited by Anita Peri Sela, the book will be launched in October 2012 in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa, in the presence of the author and with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv.
