Enescu: Neglected Genius, a Concert by Schubert Ensemble

We are proud to support "Enescu: Neglected Genius", a concert part of Schubert Ensemble's 30thanniversary celebrations, taking place at Kings Place from 7 to 9 March 2013.

The Schubert Ensemble has always had a passion for championing neglected works of the past that deserve a wider hearing. In the last few years they have been focussing on the works of George Enescu and are currently working on their second Enescu CD for Chandos Records. A prodigiously talented violinist, pianist and conductor and one of the great musical geniuses of the 20th century, Enescu saw himself primarily as a composer

Schubert Ensemble is invited at the 2013 edition of the Enescu Festival, within Enescu and his contemporaries Series, on the 28th  of September.

This concert offers the chance to hear Enescu's ravishing First Piano Quartet (1909) played by an Ensemble that has taken this composer to their hearts. It is a late romantic masterpiece of brilliantly colourful and virtuosic writing that takes the piano quartet medium to its limits.

The performance also features the darkly passionate Second Piano Quartet by Gabriel Fauré, one of Enescu's most important teachers.

The Schubert Ensemble are: Simon Blendis, violin; Douglas Paterson, viola; Jane Salmon, cello and William Howard, piano.

When: Fri 8 March 2013, 7.30pm; at 6.30pm the members of the Schubert Ensemble give players' perspective on Enescu's extraordinary First Piano Quartet (free event)

Where: Kings Place, 90 York Way, London, N1 9AG
