"Allegretto" Romanian National Children Choir Concert at Silk Road International Arts Center in Langfang

"Allegretto" Romanian National Children’s Choir  held an extraordinary tour in China between July 21 and August 2. The "Allegretto" delegation, consisting of 52 people (28 children, 8 teachers, and 15 parents), participated in the Tianjin International Children’s Art Festival and performed in three of the most impressive concert halls in Beijing, organized by the ICR Beijing representative office.

The 2024 International Festival of Culture and Arts (Tianjin International Children’s Art Festival), launched in 1998, featured 45 delegations with over 1,100 children from 25 countries across five continents, offering remarkable performances. The Allegretto Choir, composed of children aged 6 to 18, performed 7 concerts in Tianjin, sometimes giving two or three performances a day in packed venues. It was a true tour de force for the children, who were rewarded with enthusiastic applause, admiration from the audience who hummed along with the songs, and continuous acclamation, especially impressed by the choir's rich repertoire, notably the Chinese-language songs.

In Beijing, the three concerts took place in three exceptional venues with full audiences: at Winland International Financial Center in Beijing (July 28), at the Silk Road International Arts Centre in Langfang (July 30), and at the Forbidden City Concert Hall (August 1). The concerts lasted 1 hour and 30 minutes live without a break, and the repertoire included 29 pieces in 11 languages: Romanian, Chinese, English, Greek, Italian, Hebrew, Polish, Spanish, French, Croatian, and Turkish, drawing admiration from the audience.

The second concert took place on July 30 at 7:00 PM in the Diamond Concert Hall of the Silk Road International Arts Centre in Langfang, where the National Children’s Choir "Allegretto" performed in front of over 500 spectators and more than 10,000 online viewers. At the end of the concert, the last two songs in Chinese were performed together with the "Silk Road One Voice Choir," composed of 30 Chinese children aged 5 to 8. The event received hundreds of online support messages and was praised by the organizers as one of the most successful children's events in 2019.

The Silk Road International Arts Centre in Langfang, led by renowned pianist Claudia Yang, is the largest arts center in northern China, located near Daxing International Airport. It has a variety of functions and specific themes, having been launched in 2019 to provide optimal conditions for organizing regional and international cultural activities.

The Allegretto National Children’s Choir celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, having been founded in 1974 by the initiative and dedication of Professor Adriana Codreanu. Over the decades, the children’s choir has enjoyed great success on stages in Romania and worldwide, performing songs in 26 languages. The choir has given over 1,600 performances and concerts, more than 600 of which were abroad, participated in 69 tours and 6 international creative camps, and has competed in numerous competitions and festivals, winning over 60 awards, gold medals, best performance prizes, first prizes, and other distinctions.

ICR Beijing prepared the entire program for the 5 days of concerts and rehearsals in Beijing, provided the delegation with an air-conditioned bus for their stay in Beijing, courtesy of Beijing Jiaotong University, during the high temperatures, organized a calligraphy course for Allegretto choir members at the Beijing University of Architecture and Design (BJTU) on July 29, and ensured all the conditions for the smooth running of the tour.

The events were a great success with the Chinese public and were promoted on major media platforms in China: China News, China Daily, CCTV, CGTN, Radio China International, etc., attracting hundreds of spectators and tens of thousands of online views. The event was promoted on the online platforms of ICR/ICR Beijing on social media (Website/WeChat/Facebook) and on social networks.
