After the fall of communism, Romania experienced a resurrection of Jewish studies, a topic that used to be taboo previous to 1990. Various academic centers were opened for the study of Jewish history and culture (BA and MA), and many young people opted for this specialization, including their choice of PhD topics.
The conference organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv, the Goren-Goldstein Diaspora Research Center, Tel Aviv University and A.M.I.R (United Organization of Romanian Jews in Israel) aims at bringing to the attention of the young Israeli audience topics less frequented in Romanian and Israeli historiography, concerning the common history of the Jewish community in Romania, and the community of Romanian-born Israelis, respectively.
The participants are specialists in history and sociology from universities and research institutes in the USA (Radu Ioanid), Romania (Adrian Cioflâncă, Anca Ciuciu, Damiana Oțoiu, Andrei Muraru) and Israel (Raphael Vago, Leon Volovici, Zvi Hartman, Alexander Avraham, Ronit Fisher, Gabriel Gurman).
The conference is aimed at academics and students, specialized public and the long-time friends of ICR TA.
