The Romanian Cultural Institute is proud to present a Gala Concert on the occasion of the National Day of Romania. Our special guest is the internationally acclaimed soprano Elena Mosuc (Metropolitan Opera New York, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Vienna State Opera and Opernhaus Zürich), accompanied by pianist Enrico Cacciari.
The event within the Enescu Concerts Programme will take place in the presence of His Excellency Dr Ion Jinga, the Ambassador of Romania in the UK and of the Director of ICR London, Mr Dorian Branea.

Elena Mosuc is widely recognized as one of the world's most versatile and expressive sopranos, and one of the greatest musicians to have come from Romania. She has performed in renowned opera houses including Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Vienna State Opera and at the Opernhaus Zürich. Elena Mosuc has shared the stage with illustrious artists such as José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, Angela Gheorghiu, Leo Nucci, Alfredo Kraus, Giorgio Zancanaro, Juan Pons, Lucia Popp, Peter Seiffert, Ruggiero Raimondi, Agnes Baltsa, Roberto Alagna and Lucio Gallo. Celebrated performances as the Queen of the Night in Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Paris, Rome, Tokyo and Shanghai have been followed by triumphs at the Bavarian Staatsoper in the title roles of Lucia di Lammermoor and La Traviata. In Essen's Aalto Theatre she has had outstanding success as Luisa Miller and as Elvira in Bellini's I Puritani.
Her debut performances as Gilda and as Violetta in the Verona Arena were received with unanimous acclaim by audiences and critics alike. Other important and successful engagements brought her to the Deutsche Opera Berlin, where her debut involved all four principal female roles (Olympia, Antonia, Giulietta and Stella) in Les Contes d' Hoffmann. The same production was later taken to the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona (Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and La Traviata) and to the Teatro La Fenice (La Traviata).
In 2005, the President of Romania awarded her the title "Officer of the Arts", the highest musical distinction of the country. In 2009, Italian reviewers awarded her the "Lina Pagliughi: Siola d'oro" Prize, together with the high patronage medal of the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano. In 2010, Elena Mosuc became honorary citizen of Iasi, her native town.
Enrico Cacciari began studying piano with Enza Jori at the Conservatoire of Modena, Italy. His musical studies took him to Bologna and Milan, where he focused on composition, harpsichord and organ. He completed his Master Degree with Dario de Rosa and Maureen Jones at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. He has performed regular concerts as a member of various ensembles and orchestras. In 2000, after three years of working with the prestigious Teatro alla Scala, he moved to Zürich, where he joined the musical staff at the Zürich Opera House. He has worked regularly with world-renowned conductors including Franz Welser-Möst and Nello Santi. Enrico Cacciari is also the pianist of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
The Enescu Concerts Programme is jointly organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London and the Enescu Society. The programme was established in 2007 under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Margarita of Romania.
The Institute and the Enescu Society run the Enescu Concerts Programme season every first Thursday of each month from October to July. The Institute's concert stage regularly hosts outstanding musicians performing George Enescu's music alongside an international repertoire.
Since September 2009, the Romanian Cultural Institute has awarded Enescu Society scholarships to students at the Royal Academy of Music.
