Award-winning Documentary "Teach" Premiers in New York

The winner of the Ji.hlava Festival’s Prize for the best East and Central European documentary, "Teach" ("Profu’") by first-time director Alexandru Brendea, will have its American premiere as part of a special showcase hosted by the Czech Center of New York, the 3rd edition of Echoes of Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival. A touching and revealing portrait of a maverick teacher who is fighting to preserve the dignity of his profession during hard times, the film will be introduced and discussed by the director himself.


Alex Brendea (1987) makes his directorial debut after ten years of working in Romanian cinematography as a cameraman. In addition to several feature films, he has also shot Dieter Auner's documentary "Off the Beaten Track" (2010) about herdsmen in northern Transylvania and "The Year of the Dragon" by Iulian Ghervas (2013) for HBO Europe, which was dedicated to Chinese immigrants in Romania.

The event will take place in the Bohemian National Hall's cinema on February 20 at 7 PM.
