Between the 17th of March and the 24th of April, 2013, at Omer Gallery there will be exhibited a series of artworks produced under the title “The Spirit of Săpânța” – a Romanian - Israeli traditional and contemporary art project, initiated by prof. Haim Maor in cooperation with the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv. The exhibition was previously shown in Israel at Kibbutz Beeri, in March-April 2013.
The project “The Spirit of Săpânța” aims to reveal some common features between the Israeli contemporary art and the Romanian traditional art. The artworks (paintings, drawings, documentary photos, video recordings) were made in August – September 2012 in Săpânța, and were presented in an exhibition organized at Galeria Lina - Sinagoga Bistrița - The Society of Concerts Bistrița, with the support of the Israeli Embassy in Romania, in cooperation with Bistrița Municipal Cultural Center, The Jewish Community of Bistriţa-Năsăud and Bistriţa City Hall.
The exhibiton is comprised of works of the Israeli artists Haim Maor and Nora Stanciu, as well as works of the Romanian naive artist Dumitru Pop Tincu, follower of Stan Pătraş, the founder of ”The Merry Cemetery” of Săpânța.
For one month, the three artists worked together on the project “The Spirit of Săpânța”, making artworks that appeal to memory, commemoration, art and folklore.
The opening will take place on Sunday, the 17th of April, 20:00 hrs.
