The members of the Romanian Piano Trio are the exponents of a new trend among young Romanians with studies abroad - the choice to pursue a blooming career in their native country, thus bringing home the knowledge and the experience they acquired overseas.
Pianist Horia Mihail comes back in Romania as concert soloist of the Brasov Philharmonic after holding the position of Associate Professor at the Boston University between 1999 and 2002; violinist Alexandru Tomescu is presently the concert soloist of the Romanian State Radio Orchestra after extensive studies in Switzerland with Tibor Varga and in Dallas, Texas with Eduard Schmieder. Razvan Suma, holder of a Masters Degree at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is enjoying a remarkable career as soloist throughout the world. Being already very experienced as chamber musicians, the three artists decided to establish a permanent trio. Besides their passion for this musical genre the idea that unites the three musicians is the challenge of presenting a vast repertory, largely unexplored, in a new and personal vision. The Romanian Piano Trio had a rapid growth. The live recording of their debut recital at the International Music Festival in Brasov has been included in the Golden archive of the National Romanian Radio Society and their recital in the Arts Festival in Bucharest, broadcasted live on TVR Cultural had an enthusiastic outcome, both from the audience and the critics. During last two seasons the artists launched, organized and performed the first Romanian nation-wide concert tours of a chamber music group, financed exclusively with private funds. "MusicON" represented a tremendous success: extensively covered by media, the events presented in 36 cities including Bucharest aimed and succeeded to rejuvenate the existing image of classical music. Romanian Piano Trio portrayed music of Schumann, Elgar, Sibelius and Grieg, presenting it to both young and experienced audiences in a fresh, innovative and friendly manner.
