WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

The 4th edition of the Salon of Romanian-American Artists Opens in November

The 2025 edition of our annual Salon of Romanian-American Artists marks a new chapter in the evolution of this program, presenting an ambitious collaborative project with The Romanian Art Collective in San Francisco. This year’s exhibition revolves around the fundamental and often unsettling question “Where Are You From?” — a reflection on identity, belonging, and the multifaceted experiences of migration that shape contemporary life.

The show brings together eight Romanian-American artists —Alexandra Cicorschi, Ioanida Costache, Florentina MocanuBogdan PastorAlexandru SalceanuEmanuela  Harris SintamarianCamelia Skikos, and Kat Mustatea — whose creative practices span diverse media, including painting, photography, fashion design, performance, installation, and sound art. United by a shared sense of displacement and reinvention, these artists offer deeply personal responses to the ongoing negotiation between roots and relocation, between the cultural memory of “home” and the transformative experience of “elsewhere.”

Through their works, ”Where Are You From?” invites viewers into an introspective dialogue about identity in motion — exploring tensions between heritage and hybridity, nostalgia and adaptation, presence and absence. Each artist contributes a distinctive visual and conceptual language that broadens our understanding of how migration reshapes not only where we come from, but also who we become. The exhibition holds particular resonance in today’s world, where questions of identity, belonging, and cultural translation occupy a central place in both public and artistic discourse.

The exhibition is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, in collaboration with The Romanian Art Collective (San Francisco), and will be on view at our Brâncuși Gallery in Midtown Manhattan from November 21, 2025, through January 16, 2026.
