One of the enduring ways by which the Romanian Monarchs have expressed their majesty and attachment to their realm was by erecting impressive edifices that have forever impacted Romania’s built environment. Iconic and majestic, these beautiful constructions remain, to this day, a testament of greatness and good taste. The opening of the exhibition 'Architecture and Royalty', followed by the projection of the documentary 'Royal Residences in Romania'(narrated by academician Răzvan Theodorescu) and a conversation with professors Augustin Ioanand Marius Marcu-Lapadat offer a thorough exploration of the architectural masterpieces created under the aegis of the Romanian Royal Family.
The exhibition 'Architecture and Royalty' is set up with the support of the Bucharest General City Hall in partnership with Creart - The Center for Creation, Art and Tradition of Bucharest Municipality, and was presented to the public for the first time at the Pelişor Castle in the presence of H.R.H. Princess Elena of Romania.
The film 'Royal Residences in Romania' (2016) is scripted and narrated by academician Răzvan Theodorescu and produced by Acron Creativ. The film presents and discusses the architectural legacy of the Romanian Royal Family.
Augustin Ioan is professor of architecture at the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest and the author of numerous articles and essays. Professor Ioan is the author of 'Architecture and Power' (1992), 'Politics of Modernization in Central and Eastern European Architecture' (1999), and 'Return into the Sacred Space' (2004).
Marius Marcu-Lapadat is professor at the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest. He is the author of various design, interior design and architecture projects. Professor Marcu-Lapadat is the winner of an honourable mention at the 'Schinkenchiku Residential Design Competition' in Tokyo and of the Special Prize for Excellence in Design at the Bucharest Biennale of Architecture. He was the president of the Romanian Design Foundation between 1997 and 1998, and Commissioner of the Romanian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2008 and 2010. He is also the author of various projects in the field of design and interior design like 'Introduction to Interior Architecture', 'Bucharest: Architecture and modernity. An annotated guide', and 'Bucharest Architecture in the 20th Century'.
