London in Motion: screening & panel

The Romanian Cultural Institute London is happy to host the screening of four films focused on London as well as East Europeans living in London coming out of the London in Motion workshop.

The London in Motion project consists of two series of extra-curricular documentary film workshops. During the workshops, UCL postgraduate students and staff as well as non-academics from the wider community learnt to apply the basic principles and tools of documentary film making.

London in Motion is a joint initiative of the School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies (SSEES), the Bartlett (Urban Film Society) and PocketVisions. It was funded by UCL Futures.

The screening will be followed by a panel with the film makers and special guests.

The films: Little Georgia: A portrait of a small Georgian cafe in East London, with the life stories of Georgian owners and staff written on walls, expressed in objects and in the food they serve. Lost in Transition: Homelessness is experienced in different ways. This film presents the story of two East European immigrants who have been sleeping rough on the streets of London. Alex: A story of a young Romanian who has come to London to live his artistic talents. Once here, his life takes a different course. The film explores gendered relations to space. Viewing Corridors: This film questions the commoditization of London's views in newly developed apartment blocks, contrasting it to the views some (East European) inhabitants living in council estates have.
