MON, January 5 | New York Film Critics Awards Ceremony, NYC
On January 5th, 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days received the award for the Best Foreign-Language Film of 2008 from the New York Film Critics Circle. Cristian Mungiu's acceptance message at the ceremony in NYC was delivered by Corina Suteu, director of RCINY, in front of an impressive audience including the awards presenters and recipients Sean Penn, Gus Van Sant, Mike Leigh, Sigourney Weaver, Penelope Cruz, Jenny Lumet, or Salman Rushdie. Critics were not alone in their appreciation: J. Hoberman's accolades ("The Romanian director's brilliantly discomfiting second feature is a long premonition of disaster, discreetly - and then shockingly - graphic. It's both a visceral allegory and a virtuoso white-knuckle thriller") were shared by many of the attendees, including fellow director Gus Van Sant.
In December 2008, the internationally acclaimed 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days , directed by Cristian Mungiu, was awarded the Best Foreign Film Award both by the New York Film Critics Circle and the New York Film Critics Online (NYFCO).
