Day of National Culture

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Prague invites you to the lyrical show EMINESCU - THE SOUL OF ROMANIAN POETRY by Musica Viva group.

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Prague marks the Day of National Culture on January 15th, 2016, at 7 p.m., by organizing an event that pays hommage to Mihai Eminescu (born in 1850), whom will be celebrated through poetry and music, bringing together excerpts of the unique poet's work and the music of two important Romanian composers: George Enescu and Belà Bartok. The event will take place in Rudolfinum, Sukova concert hall (Alšovo nábř. 12, 110 00 Praha 1, Czech Republic) - the building of the Czech Philharmonic, Rudolfinum, is the most representative New Renaissance style construction in the Czech Republic, dating from the 19th century. For this occasion, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Prague invited the Musica Viva Ensemble (pianist Andreea Butnaru and cello player Florin Mitrea), who will take to perfection the musical-dramatical performance in collaboration with Ioana Calotă, a remarkable actress.

Also, it is worth mentioning that the event marks a double anniversary, as this year we also celebrate 135 years from the birth of the Romanian composer George Enescu. In this mix, the romantic style meets symbols of the esthetic and cultural Romanian space, in a perfect symbiose that allows us to imagine past and contemporary artistic creations under the sign of interdisciplinarity.

In Romanian literature, Mihai Eminescu represents an archetype for the future generations of poets and humanists. The man who lived a life of achievement through suffering, a great patriot who knew how to use the value of the spiritual dimensions of his place of origin, the morning star poet, is a master of language and verse use and became immortal for the Romanian people.

The Musica Viva Ensemble, created in 2005 by pianist Andreea Butnaru and cello player Florin Mitrea, is conceived, designed and formed as a dynamic manifestation of classical chamber music. During the 8 years since foundation, their passion for chamber music has translated in successful projects, both at home and abroad, such as: „Brahmsiana" (2008), the syncretic performance Sound, Matter, Word (2010), their very important professional project „Beethoven - Integral of piano trios" (2011-2012) and „Musical Dialogues" (2013 - 2015). In 2013 Musica Viva was one of the ensembles selected by BBC Radio Classic to represent the Romanian Day during the Radio European Union broadcast.
