For the fourth year in a row, the Romanian Cultural Institute, through the National Book Centre, presents Romania's stand at The London Book Fair. The key publishing houses will take part, reflecting the rich production and fast development of the Romanian book market.
This year's special guests are celebrated writers Stelian Tanase and Mircea Dinescu, editor and author Florin Bican, and illustrator Gabriela Boiangiu. The Master of Ceremony is Radio 4's presenter Rosie Goldsmith.
The University of Plymouth Press, currently publishing a 20 Romanian author series, will be the guest of honour at the Romanian pavilion.

Seminar: Florin Bican (editor and author) and Gabriela Boiangiu (illustrator) will present a new format of children's book: The Cook-a-Book Pancyclopedia of Texts and Images (Bookataria de texte si imagini) whose first volume was published in 2009.

Author Encounter: Radio 4's Rosie Goldsmith will host an author event to introduce European TV star and writer, Stelian Tanase. The Romanian actress Cristina Catalina will perform readings in English from Tanase's Auntie Varvara's Clients. In this Romanian politico-historical work, Tanase sketches a pattern of warring factions through an incredible swarm of characters and makes no bones about the Romanian Security Service. under communism.

Publishing Reception: The University of Plymouth Press and the Romanian Cultural Institute hold a drinks reception to celebrate our international publishing collaboration and to invite those interested in joining the MA Publishing course at the University of Plymouth. Potential students can meet post-graduates and lecturers to discuss the course and network with ex-students who are employed in publishing.

Cooking Demonstration: Perpetual poet, former dissident, ex-president of the Romanian Writers' Union and current president of the Romanian Academy of Gastronomy, vintner, journalist and media star, Mircea Dinescu (born November 11, 1950) always has more than one finger in the pie. His approach to cooking never fails to amaze through its flamboyant simplicity. At his Danube retreat cum hacienda, the Cetate Cultural Port, Mircea Dinescu is growing his own produce and conducting his own impromptu cooking workshops, by now famous all over Romania. Cetate Cultural Port is a haven of south east European conviviality, hosting writers and translators, discussions and readings after sumptuous dinners. Mircea Dinescu's first cookery book is soon to come out.

Reading and Reception: After a stint at the COOK BOOK CORNER demonstrating one of his famous secret recipes (12.00 - 12:45), Mircea Dinescu will read his vintage poetry while treating the audience to his vintage wines. The English version will be read by actress Cristina Catalina.

Seminar: During the panel discussion Passing It On: Training the Next Generation of Translators, Florin Bican (The Romanian National Book Centre) will talk about the Romanian Cultural Institute programmes for training literary translators and their results so far.
Art, books and music Wednesday 13 April, 6.30 - 9.30pm
7.00pm: Jazz with renowned Teodora Enache (vocal) and Sorin Terinte (piano). Teodora is one of the most authentic and breathtaking vocalists on the Romanian scene today - and puts her music across with great swing, talent and entertainment. The concert will be a masterclass of quicksilver improvising and profoundly melodic jazz - an unforgettable evening!
8.00pm: Opening of the exhibition Bound to Art, curated by Matei Caltia. Showcasing the very best in Romanian illustrated and artist's books, from the 1960s' generation of Geta Bratescu and Stefan Caltia to contemporary artists Dan Perjovschi, Daniel Knorr and many others.
8.30 - 9.30pm: Cocktail reception.
