Constantin Brâncuşi Anniversary Event

On February 19th, 2016, the Embassy of Romania in the Czech Republic and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Prague organize an anniversary event dedicated to Constantin Brâncuși, pioneer of modernism and one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century.

Born in 1876 in Hobiţa, Gorj county, Romania, Brâncuşi began to sculpt in wood when he was a child. His sculpture has a certain visual elegance, combining the folklore-inspired ornamental style and the direct character of the traditional peasant sculpture with the sophisticated and refined style of the Parisian avant-garde, that can be identified in his sculptures from maturity.

The program of the event consists of a screening of the documentary film Brâncuși, by Cornel Mihalache - that follows the most important moments from the artist's life, in chronological order, presenting even memories documented by photographies, notes or places that influenced him or that he had an influence on - and the projection, on a big cinema screen, of the sand-drawings inspired by the art of Brâncuşi, a show by scenographer Mariana Pachis.

At the end of the evening there will be a diplomatic reception and the guests will serve a cocktail.

This is an invitation only event.
