Choreographer and dancer Mihaela Dancs @ What Now... Dance Festival

The Romanian Cultural Institute in London is delighted to support the ongoing London showcase of Romanian choreographic talent. Mihaela Dancs will perform her piece Lulu's Room at the What Now... Festival alongside international and UK based artists. Supported by the National Centre of Dance Bucharest, this solo piece "deals, at various levels, with the significance of being present. On one hand, we are faced with the presence assumed by the performer, on the other, we are led to a point where we should deal with the status of our own presence." (Gina Serbanescu, Moving Dialogue: Think Fourth! Critical Correspondence, 2010)

Curated by the acclaimed choreographer Gill Clarke from Independent Dance at the award winning Siobhan Davies Dance Studio, What Now... Festival showcases new and experimental works by independent artists around the world. Consisting of more than 540 minutes of dance, the Festival presents a diversity of choreographic forms, from live performance to installations that cut across boundaries between dance, visual art, craft and film.

Mihaela Dancs performed works by various choreographers such as Robin Dingemans, Allyson Green, Pascal Allio, Rui Catalao, Bernard Baumgarten, Vava Stefanescu and Madalina Dan. As a choreographer her works include: Reprogramare (2006), Follow That Summer (with Rui Catalao 2008), First Steps (with Carmen Cotofana, 2009), Lulu's Room (2009). In 2010 she was a DanceWeb scholar in Vienna. Currently she adapts Art and Life, a solo choreographed by Deborah Hay.
