
We are pleased to invite you to a chamber music concert performed by the Romanian String Quartet, hosted by the Academy of Performing Arts Prague – Martinů Hall (Malostranské sqr. 13, Prague 1), which will take place on the 1st of October, at 7 pm.
The Romanian String Quartet gathers some of the most distinguished Romanian musicians members of the Romanian Chamber Orchestra. Romanian String Quartet members: Maria Marica and Alexandru Marian – violin, Cristian Andriș – viola, Radu Sinaci – cello.
Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023 – was promoted through a concert given by the Romanian String Quartet in December 2022 at the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Parliament in Brussels.
In 2023, as part of the RCO 4 Seasons project, the quartet held a series of concerts in Rome, Madrid, Porto, and Lisbon, made possible thanks to the exceptional support of the Romanian Embassies and Cultural Institutes in these countries. The RCO 4 Seasons project was nominated by the Romanian National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN) for the AFCN Awards 2023, in the category “Promoting Romanian Culture Worldwide”. Romania’s National Day in 2023 was celebrated in Lisbon through another performance by the quartet.
In June 2024, the Romanian String Quartet carried out its first tour in Timiș County, performing a varied repertoire written by Romanian composers from the Banat region. The second tour, entitled Freedom of Music, brought to the forefront works written in the diaspora by Romanian composers. This project conveyed the story of Romanian freedom and served as a tribute to the freedom of expression and movement gained 35 years ago, with the Romanian Revolution and the fall of communism in several Eastern European countries. As part of the tour, the Romanian String Quartet performed in Timișoara, Budapest, Szczecin, and Berlin.
Romania’s National Day and the 50th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Romania and Portugal were marked by an extraordinary concert of the Romanian String Quartet, held on November 27, 2024, in the heritage hall “Picadeiro Real de Belém” of the National Museum in Lisbon. The quartet was also present at the 3rd edition of the MUSICRIT Awards Gala, held on January 14, 2025, in the Great Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest.
In May 2025, the quartet performed in two of the most important classical music festivals in Romania – Timișoara International Music Festival and Cluj Chamber Music Festival.
The project is co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN). One of the works in the musical program – String Quartet No. 2 by Sabin Drăgoi – was written in Prague.
