On Saturday, May 30, at 18:00, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Beijing has the honor to invite you to the concert “Harmonies of Guzheng and Poetry: Sino–Romanian Cultural Salon”, presented by the Guzheng Players ensemble together with Romanian students in China, at Galaxy SOHO. Conceived as a meeting space between two great cultural traditions, the event proposes an artistic dialogue between Chinese musical heritage and the lyrical sensibility of Romanian culture through contemporary guzheng reinterpretations of Romanian, European, and Chinese works, complemented by recitals from the poetry of Mihai Eminescu.
The program brings together works inspired by the Romanian and European musical universe — from Béla Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances and resonances from the music of George Enescu to Romanian folk motifs — alongside classical Chinese compositions such as High Mountains and Flowing Water, Jasmine Flower, Calling of the Flowers, Lotus Rising from the Water, and Fishermen’s Song at Sunset. One of the performances will be accompanied by a live Chinese calligraphy demonstration inspired by the classical verse: “With true friends in the world, distance becomes insignificant,” an emblematic expression of the spiritual closeness between cultures.
Through its refined sonority and deeply contemplative character, the guzheng — an instrument emblematic of Chinese civilization — becomes, throughout this evening, a vehicle for intercultural dialogue and aesthetic convergence between East and Europe. The concert highlights the capacity of art to transcend differences of language and geography, creating a shared space of sensitivity, cultural memory, and human connection.
The event is organized in partnership with Pure Ripple Culture (Qingyi Cultural Atelier), an institution dedicated to the international promotion of traditional Chinese music and to the development of artistic exchanges between East and West. Its activity brings together concerts, performances, and interdisciplinary projects integrating traditional Chinese instruments such as guzheng, guqin, pipa, and erhu alongside Western classical music, within an artistic framework that also embraces tea ceremony, calligraphy, and traditional Chinese dance.
