On the evening of 30 May 2026, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Beijing, in partnership with Pure Ripple Culture (清漪文化), hosted the event “Harmonies of Guzheng and Poetry: A Sino-Romanian Cultural Evening”, dedicated to the encounter between Romanian literature and traditional Chinese music.
Starting from Romanian poetry and several landmarks of Romanian culture and literature, the programme included presentations, readings and guzheng performances, offering the Chinese public the opportunity to discover Romania through art. At the centre of the evening was the dialogue between word and music, between the Romanian poetic universe and the sounds of one of the oldest instruments of the Chinese musical tradition.
Among the moments particularly appreciated by the audience were guzheng performances of works inspired by the Romanian repertoire, including “The Waves of the Danube” by Iosif Ivanovici, in a version that proposed a new interpretation of a well-known piece from Romania’s musical heritage.
The event brought together culture enthusiasts, artists, students and representatives of Beijing’s cultural community in a setting that encouraged the exchange of ideas and the discovery of different cultural perspectives. Through this initiative, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Beijing continued to promote Romanian literature and culture in China through projects that emphasize the direct encounter between artists, works of art and the public.
