Maxim Quartet was founded in 2011 by four well-known Romanian musicians who burst out of the classical tradition to explore new styles: from stylized Romanian traditional or theatrical music to jazz. Its members, Horia Maxim (piano), Mihaela Anica (flute), Fernando Mihalache (accordion) and Săndel Smărăndescu (double bass) are first rate artists of Romanian classical stages.
Having deep roots into the classical music, the four musicians are aiming a voyage both to the music depths and out of its borders, by the nonchalant transforming of one of the most popular and bench marking musical creations.
This new sonorous approach is becoming the Maxim Quartet’s mark that represents the pleasure of playing music, the specific sounding and taste for instrumental perfection.
„Four musicians, four artistic destinies, and one goal to be achieved: pure beauty or how to find the warmth in the stuck feelings and attitudes imposed by the time trends.” (Radio France Internationale)
