Director and producer Tudor Giurgiu, special guest at the Sam Spiegel Film & Television School, Jerusalem. 7-9.12.2010

The Romanian filmmaker and producer, Tudor Giurgiu, has been invited by the prestigious Sam Spiegel Film & Television School from Jerusalem, to offer a three-day master class to its students. Tudor Giurgiu will present the Romanian cinema, then and now. In his class he will deal with finance, distribution in Romania and internationally, leading film directors, content and Romanian film festivals. A comparison will be made between the Romanian and the Israeli film industry, as there is much similarity where small budget and international adoration for these films are concerned. He will tackle the question of getting by with such short budgets in the endlessly developing film arena of the Western world. The program is supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv

Tudor Giurgiu graduated from the Theatre and Film Academy in Bucharest in 1994. He attended various international seminars in filmmaking held by prominent foreign directors and producers. Early in his career he worked as first assistant for filmmakers such as Lucian Pintilie and Radu Mihăileanu.
He directed and produced pop videos and commercials, including several award-winning ones. In 2002 Giurgiu founded Transylvania International Film Festival, the first international event of its kind in Romania. He was president of the festival until 2005 as is currently honorary president. Between 2005-2007 he acted as President-Director General of the Romanian National Television.
His filmography includes the short films Neighbours (1993) and Popcorn Story (2000). He made his feature film debut with the 2006 Love Sick. In 2004 he produced the highly acclaimed documentary The Great Communist Bank Robbery (directed by Alexandru Solomon).
