Lia Perjovschi @ Tate Modern

Having had her first UK solo exhibition at the Yujiro Gallery, supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, acclaimed Romanian artist Lia Perjovschi has been invited to take part in the group show Learn to Read at Tate Modern. The exhibition brings together works by 29 artists playing with text, erasure and miscommunication. The works resonate with the influence of Dada, Fluxus, Letterism and conceptual art.

Featured artists are: Saâdane Afif, John Baldessari, Robert Barry, Carol Bove, Peter Coffin, Annelise Coste, Shannon Ebner, Simon Evans, Mario Garcia Torres, Graham Gillmore, Mauricio Guillen, Kevin Hutcheson, Bethan Huws, Július Koller, Christopher Knowles, Friedrich Kunath, Glenn Ligon, Maria Lindberg, Kris Martin, Jonathan Monk, Lia Perjovschi, Philippe Parreno, Kirsten Pieroth, Damien Roach, Vittorio Santoro, David Shrigley, Frances Stark, Sue Tompkins, and Jordan Wolfson.

For almost 20 years now Lia Perjovschi has been recovering, collecting and disseminating pieces of information which used to be inaccessible in Romania prior to the 1990s. Ideas and notes take on the form of snowflake diagrams. They touch history, art theory, politics and language. She cares less if one calls them art or not. What she is to examine what, how, and ultimately who enters the archive of history.

Learn to Read is the latest exhibition in the Level 2 Gallery series forecasting themes and trends in international contemporary art. The exhibition is supported by the Roamanian Cultural Institute in London, Cultures France and Pro Helvetia.
