Curator Irina Cios, director of the International Center for Contemporary Art (CIAC/ICCA) in Bucharest
Ready or not… presents the works of 8 Romanian young artists formed in the '90s, active as well in photography, installation or performance. What brings them together is a certain ludicrous approach, a cocktail that involves bitter humor, playful irony and poetic reflection. Trying to explore the multi-faced identity of today's being these works reflect on individuals permanently related to several space-time realities.
The works speak about leveling, atomization, aggression and dehumanization by means of seductive, intriguing and provocative images that involve the viewer in a deconstructive process that activates the imagination into reconstructing urgent actual themes such as: relating to both local and global (Bogdan Teodorescu), approaching otherness (Regele Ionescu), facing consumerism (Delia Popa), dealing with alienation (Stefan Constantinescu), escaping isolation (Nicu Ilfoveanu & Michele Bressan), facing futureless childhood (Irina Botea) or coping with reality (Cristina David). The selection invites to an approach that refuses post processing and the linear narrative in favor of a lecture pulverized in a variety of meanings and shapes.
