Beyond the fence. The story of a Holocaust survivor
Designed as an interview, the documentary follows the story of Adolfina Regenbogen and her family, who perished in the Transnistria concentration camp system, in Mostovoi. Adolfina Regenbogen was born at a time when Romania's state policy towards its Jewish population was taking a violent turn. Between 1940-1944, Romania was ruled by a succession of fascist political regimes who deemed the discriminatory measures and policies applied until then as no longer sufficient. Inspired by Hitler's Germany, they sought radical ways to deal with what they called the "Jewish problem," leading to mass murder. State law-enforcement agencies, the army, the police, the gendarmerie, the secret services, were mobilized against the Jews, who were harassed, beaten, deported and, many, killed during these four years. This film deals with an episode from September 1942, when 600 Jews from the Old Kingdom were deported to Mostovoi, Transnistria, robbed by Romanian gendarmes and then shot by an execution squad recruited by the SS from German settlers in Rastadt.
The film is produced by the Romanian Television (TVR), Other Minorities section, and is made by journalist Teodora Drăgoi and historian Adrian Cioflâncă. Executive producer: Borislav Velimirovici. Image director: Mihai Covrig. Image editor: Dan Doroftei.
The Romanian Television offered the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv the broadcast rights for the film, for the online screening on April 6th, 2021.
