Romania at Salon du Livre 2011

Between the 18th and the 21st of March 2011, more than twenty Romanian publishers will be present at the 12th edition of Salon du Livre / The Paris Book Fair. This year, the Romanian stand, organised by The Romanian Cultural Institute will also include a commercial space, dedicated to selling Romanian books, with the support of Cărturești Bookshop. The publishers present at the fair are: All, Art, Brumar, Cartier, Cartea Românească, Corint, Curtea Veche, The Publishing House of the Romanian Cultural Institute, Hasefer, House of Guides, Humanitas, Ideea, Igloo Media, Junimea, Minerva, Nemira, Paralala 45, Polirom, Rao, Trei, Vellant and Vremea. As in previous years, the translation programmes run by the National Book Centre will be presented; through these programmes 249 volumes have been printed so far.
On the 18th and 19th of March, The Romanian Cultural Institute from Paris, in partnership with the National Book Centre and the The Museum of Romanian Literature from Bucharest, will hold a colloquy: "Cioran: the Triumphal Pessimism". The event celebrates 100 years since the birth of Cioran and will include debates between specialists on his work, as well as two documentary viewings: Apocalipsa după Cioran (The Apocalipse after Cioran) by Sorin Ilieșu and Scriitorii secolului. Emil Cioran (The Writers of the Century. Emil Cioran) by Bernard Jourdain & Patrice Bollon. The debates will be moderated by Horia-Roman Patapievici, president of the Romanian Cultural Institute and acting president of EUNIC and George Banu, professor at the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3, essayist and theatre critic. The following have announced their participation in the colloquy: Sorin Alexandrescu, Ingrid Astier, Patrice Bollon, Livius Ciocârlie, Nicolas Cavaillès, Aurélien Demars, Sorin Ilieșiu, Roland Jaccard, Sylvie Jaudeau, Simona Modreanu, Pierre Pachet, Vincent Piednoir, Fernando Savater, Barbara Scapolo, Liviu Tofan, Florin Țurcanu si Constantin Zaharia.

On the 20th of March, the Romanian stand will host two book presentations: Andreia Roman, reader at INALCO Paris, with launch a bilingual anthology - Littérature Roumaine / Literatura română (Non Lieu Publishing, Paris, 2011); and journalist Cristina Hermeziu will present Revoluţia din depărtare / La Révolution de loin (Curtea Veche Publishing, Bucureşti, 2011), accompanied by Monica Heintz, reader at the University of Paris Ouest Nanterre. Also scheduled is a presentation of issue 64 of Atelier du roman - Românii și romanul / Les Roumains et le roman (Flammarion Publishing, 2010).
