SOUNDS & VISIONS is a collaborative European effort, initiated by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, in partnership with the Institut Français, the Goethe-Institut, the Institutul Cultural Român, and with the significant support of the Delegation of the European Commission to the State of Israel. Participating European Union member states include: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and the United Kingdom.
For this event, Romania will be represented by Mona Vătămanu and Florin Tudor, with the video project Ploaia (The Rain). The two artists explore the sudden decline of architecture from its apex. A view of the urban anatomy of today's Bucharest reveals a painful coexistence of three historical layers: Early Modernism, Modernism in the Communist era and the distortions of the post-1989 architecture.
The exhibition, held at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art to celebrate the Hundred Years of the City of Tel Aviv, aims to verify along which lines the potential sinergy between the sound and the moving images has recently developed in the field of European visual arts and the forms of creative representation it has created. The maturity and complexity developed by the medium is witnessed by the video works presented in the exhibition space, single channel and multichannel installations, video projections, videos on monitor screens and video sculptures.
