The Romanian Cultural Institute in Beijing, in partnership with the World Poets Conference – China Chapter, organized on the second day of Christmas a poetry evening and literary dialogue entitled “Christmas Poetry Night 2025 – Romanian-Chinese Poetic Dialogue.” The event brought together Romanian and Chinese poets and took place on Friday, 26 December 2025, at 19:00, at the headquarters of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Beijing.
The poetic dialogue was moderated by Ema Stoian, Senior Relations Officer at ICR Beijing. In his opening remarks, Liviu Țăranu, Director of ICR Beijing, welcomed the guests, expressed his appreciation for the event, and encouraged the efforts of those involved in translating Romanian prose and poetry, highlighting their role in strengthening cultural dialogue between the two countries.
The program continued with a presentation of the most memorable moments from the visit to Romania by the Chinese poet Bei Ta, focusing on Romanian traditions and customs that inspired his poetry and which are reflected in his recent volume “A Selection of European Chinese Poetry.”
The evening’s guest of honor, George Vulturescu, Romanian poet, publicist, and editor, founder and editor of the literary journal “Poesis” in Satu Mare, spoke about his collaboration with Chinese poets and recited one of his most recent poems.
The program continued with readings by over 30 poets from across China, some of whom had previously visited Romania between 2016 and 2019, where they were awarded at Romanian poetry festivals. Several students present in the audience also recited poems about Romania written by Chinese poets, as well as poems inspired by China.
In total, the poetry evening brought together more than 60 participants, including special guests, Chinese undergraduate and graduate students specializing in Romanian language studies, as well as Romanian students currently studying in China.
The event concluded with an exchange of symbolic gifts — including books, artworks, and calligraphy — offered by the participating poets, followed by an informal reception hosted by the organizers.
