From Byzantium Till Today

From Byzantium Till Today showcases miniature icons and mosaics by seven well-known Romanian, Serbian, Greek, Cypriot and Bulgarian artists typical of the modern generation of Orthodox iconographers. The exhibition aims to introduce the lexicon of the Orthodox art to a British audience. It also promotes the Balkans' heritage to the Orthodox community in Greater London and to other religious and ethnic groups interested in Byzantine art and its modern expressions.

Artists include: Dobrina Hristova Badalova (Bulgaria), Ruta & Costas Gerasimou (Cyprus), Teodora Chinschi (Romania), Dana Codorean Berciu (Romania), Vladimir Cetkovic (Serbia) and Boban Veljkovic (Serbia).

The exhibition will open with a lecture on traditional Orthodox iconography by Maria Andipa, a specialist in Byzantine history of art and iconography.

The programme includes two workshops on Byzantine glass and wood icon painting on Thursday 13 December, 10.00 - 12.00 & 13.00 - 15.00. Delivered by Dana Codorean Berciu & Teodora Chinschi and, respectively, by Vladimir Cetkovic & Boban Veljkovic. Entry fee: £5. Money raised will be used for charity purposes.
