After its succesful debut in London, in 2008, this year What's Art Doc? Festival goes to Glasgow. The Festival offers an eclectic panorama of European documentaries - profiling painters, musicians, dancers, singers and other artists, or their collaborators, who talk freely about their inspiration, their relationship to the world and to their audience.
The Romanian Cultural Institute in London is proud to present the Romanian-French co-production Clara B. directed by Alexandru Solomon and Corinne Ibram. Out of real photos and archive materials, the film builds the imaginary life of Clara B., woman-photographer, born in Strasbourg - together with the 20th century. Franco-German, never satisfied with being either French or German, Clara B. travels through time and witnesses the destruction, then the construction of Europe. Alexandru Solomon is Romania's leading documentary filmmaker, winner of the Prize of the History Film Festival, Pessac, France; Grand Prix Mediawave Hungary; the Prize for Social Values at Documenta Madrid, and the Prize for the Best Director at the Hungarian-Romanian Doc Festival. Previous UK screenings of Solomon's work include The Great Communist Bank Robbery at the BBC Channel and the Voyages Festival at Cine lumiere, the Dog's Life at the Eat Our Shorts Festival at the BFI London, and Cold Waves at the London International Documentary Film Festival at the Barbican Centre
His latest documentary Apocalypse on Wheels will have the UK premiere on 3 April, 4:15pm at the Barbican, part of the London International Documentary Film Festival 2009.
What's Art Doc? is one of a number of projects organised by EUNIC London (European Union National Institutes for Culture), with the support of the European Commission Representation in the UK, aiming to promote the creative cultural diversity of Europe.
