The Romanian Cultural Institute is launching a call for applications to offer three Grants for Foreign Researchers in 2026. We invite interested researchers to submit their application files by 4th of May, until 5:00 p.m. Romanian time, online, at the email addressforeignresearchers@icr.ro
Grants for Foreign Researchers consists of financial support for an internship of 3 (three) months, in a specialized institution in Romania, in order to develop a study that discusses topics related to various spheres of Romanian society. The program is dedicated to academic improvement, targeting both PhD students working on a Romanian topic, for the preparation of doctoral theses, and well-known researchers. The selection is made by an independent commission of specialists based on the received application files. The application file must contain, among others, twoletters of recommendation from specialists in the field.
Number of Grants awarded annually: 3 (three)
Grants duration: 3 (three) months, between June 15th – December 15th 2026
Areas for which the evaluation and selection are organized: research and documentation in the fields:
- Visual arts, curatorship and art critic, museology/museography;
- Music and musicology;
- Architecture, town-planning and design;
- Literature and literary criticism;
- Cultural patrimony; Cultural management;
- Economic sciences;
- Human and social sciences.
Deadline for submission of applications: 4th of May 2026,17:00 Romanian time.
Amounts awarded:5.000 euro/grant.
Documents required for registration (grants application file):
a) the registration form;
b) CV;
c) copy of the identity card / passport;
d) a research project;
e) 2 (two)letters of recommendation from specialists in the field;
f) copies printed after the studies published in the last 2 (two) years in a recognized journal in the research field chosen by the candidate;
g) a work plan during the period for which the scholarship is requested;
h) in the case of doctoral students, copies of official documents certifying participation in an accredited doctoral program;
i) affidavit stating that all the documents sent are in accordance with the original.
The documentation will be written and submitted in English.

Publication of the announcement – 8th of April 2026;
Deadline for submission of the applications – 4th of May, 5:00 p.m., Romanian time;
Display of results – 25th of May 2026;
Submission of appeals – 25th – 28th of May 2026, 3:00 p.m. Romanian time;
Resolution of appeals – 11th of June 2026;
Display of final results – 12th of June 2026;
Signing of contracts: 15st of June – 15th of July 2026.
