Attic Arts is a residency programme at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London offering time (two months) and space (the cosy studio of the Institute) for Romanian and Moldovan artists to develop and achieve a new project to be integrated within the Institute's programme. The applicants have to propose a project that will subsequently be presented at the ICR London or external premises as appropriate. The successful applicants will acknowledge the Attic Arts programme in any public communication of their projects.
The resident artists will have the opportunity to work in a major capital that provides a distinctive mix of cultures, ethnic communities, heritage, and innovation. At the same time, the artists will collaborate with the ICR London team and local partners to develop and complete the proposed project.
Goals of the Programme
- to create an ICR London based pool of projects, which can be subsequently presented through the ICR global network, showcasing Romanian creativity to international audiences
- to create opportunities for Romanian and Moldovan artists to engage directly with British cutting edge art and cultural scene and develop a partnership project on a previously identified theme;
- to foster dialogue and extend professional networks between Romanian, Moldovan and British cultural producers respectively;
- to raise the profile of the London Romanian Cultural Institute in Romania and in the UK as a valuable partner for collaborative art programmes.
Who can apply?
Any citizen from Romania and Republic of Moldova who is pursuing creative projects in: literature; visual arts and curating; music; architecture, urbanism and design; dance; theatre; film; museography; cultural heritage.
What we offer
- residency grant of 1700 Euro / residency / month;
- 2 months accommodation in the cosy studio of the Institute in 1 Belgrave Square, next door to Buckingham Palace, Royal Albert Hall and the Serpentine Gallery;
- the opportunity to develop and complete new projects in collaboration with the ICR London team;
- the opportunity to experiment new possibilities and directions in the production of collaborative work with British fellow professionals.
Number of residencies
There will be awarded 4 residencies per year.
In the second round there will be awarded two residencies.

The proposed project must match the requirements below:
- to have an artistic quality relevant both for the ICR's and British institutions' standards;
- to fit the ICR London programmes as well as current approaches in the respective field in the UK;
- to include and identify partnerships with UK individuals or organisations, with whom can develop the project;
- preparedness to present the project at the end of the residency or within, at most, one year of the residency completion, depending on the nature of the project;
- to reflect the professional experience of the applicant;
- to be fluently comunicated in English.
The evaluation and selection criteria will be based on these requirements.
