Able to transmit the most subtle echoes of the most complicated music, Romanian pianist Alexandra Dariescu is ready to charm and astonish once more as she prepares to immerse us, in her self-confident and technically impeccable way, into the music of Bartók, Schumann, Liszt, Wagner, Dutilleux and Chopin. Alexandra has been playing at Wigmore Hall on several occasions and, apart from this recital, will return this spring on the 5 April.

Born in Romania in 1985, 25 year old Alexandra Dariescu has just completed her Masters at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with distinguished professor Ronan O'Hora and was awarded the GSMD Piano Fellowship for 2010/2011. Selected for representation by Young Concert Artists Trust (YCAT) in 2008, Alexandra was a resident at the Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland in 2010, she was the recipient of the prestigious CUBS prize and has just been awarded the Romanian Ambassador's Award for excellence in music and outstanding contribution to promoting Romania's image in the UK.

Alexandra is the first pianist to be mentored by Imogen Cooper through the Royal Philharmonic Society - YCAT Philip Langridge Mentoring Scheme. This year, Alexandra will give the premiere of the new piano concerto written for her by the award-winning composer Emily Howard with the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra on their 60th anniversary season. Over the last year, the artist has appeared as soloist with famous orchestras such as Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia ViVA or Northern Chamber Orchestra.

She has given recitals at Wigmore Hall, Barbican, Leeds International Series, Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, the Bath, Leicester, Ribble Valley, Exeter International Festivals and City of London Festival. She made her UK debut at Bridgewater Hall in the 2006 Piano Festival with the RNCM Chamber Orchestra conducted by André de Ridder, broadcast live by BBC Radio 3. Further afield she has given recitals in the USA, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Spain and Moldavia and broadcast for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, radio and television stations across Romania, Manx Radio, Isle of Man and Nevada Radio in California. In 2008, Alexandra won the prestigious Prix Maurice Ravel at the Academie Internationale de Musique Ravel in France.
