Anca Damian's "The Call" at Sundance Film Festival / 01.26-28.2019

After a remarkable journey that took the film to more than 30 festivals including Toronto and Annecy, Anca Damian’s evocative, mixed media short “The Call” lands at America’s most original cinema showcase. The multi-awarded helmer’s participation at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival is supported by RCI New York.

Anca Damian studied at the Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Bucharest where she majored in Cinematography and later obtained a Ph.D. in Film. She has worked as the director of photography for two feature films and many documentary films. Her first feature as a director, “Crossing Dates” (2008), participated in numerous film festival competitions such as Pusan, Chicago, Goteborg, Cottbus, Goa, and Rome. Her second feature as director, “Crulic - The Path to Beyond” (2011), a docudrama animation, was selected at Locarno, BFI Film Festival London, Annecy, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Pusan, New Directors/New Films, totaling more than 150 festival selections. The film won Le Cristal Award in Annecy and over 35 prizes at other notable film festivals. Her third feature as a director, screenwriter and producer, “A Very Unsettled Summer” (2013), received three prizes from at the Romanian Filmmakers’ Union Annual Awards and screened in Warsaw, Goteborg, Prague, and London festivals. Her latest directorial efforts include “The Magic Mountain” (2015), another animated docudrama, and the feature films “Perfect Health(2017) and “Moon Hotel Kabul”(2018), winner of the Prize for Best Director at last year's Warsaw Film Festival, as well as the shorts “Carré” (2016) and “The Call” (2018).
